Cornelius: The Orphan--The Pioneers of New England Book I Cornelius: The Orphan--The Pioneers of New England Book I is the working title of an in-progress novel of a planned Pioneers of New England historical fiction/adventure series Working Title: Cornelius: The Orphan--The Pioneers of New England Book I Author: Douglas Quinn Publisher: To be Determined ISBN: To be assigned Genre: Historical Fiction/Adventure Book Format: Number of Pages and Price to be determined When You're An Orphan And Your Foster Parents Throw You Out, What Do You Do And Where Do You Go Next? Cornelius is a novel based on the life and times of the progenitor of the Corson/Colson families of New England. What is known of this "character" is briefly chronicled in the family history book The Descendants of Cornelius Cursonwhit of Dover, New Hampshire Volume I. What I have done--am in the process of doing--is extrapolating the missing years of his life to create the presumed adventures of a most interesting man. Cornelius tells about the title character from his time as an orphan in New Amsterdam (later known as New York City), to his travels across the north Atlantic on a Dutch war ship as a cabin boy, to Amsterdam, Holland, where he has an encounter with the Dutch art master, Rembrandt van Rijn, and then on to Rotterdam to collect his inheritance. Later, he returns via another Dutch war ship, after being impressed, to Boston, then on to the new settlement of Cochecho, which later became known as Dover, New Hampshire. His relationship with his new wife, inlaws and children is tempestuous and fractious as he strives to survive and create a home in a untamed frontier of wild animals, contentious neighbors and Indian attacks. |
